The Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said that the country can be developed within 10 years if there is a correct economic policy.
He mentioned this when the Parliamentary Special Committee to examine the reasons for the financial bankruptcy announced by the government and report to the Parliament and to submit its proposals and recommendations on the matter, met on Wednesday (2) under the chairmanship of MP Sagara Kariyawasam.
Experts in the field of economics representing universities had been summoned to obtain opinions for this committee and professors and lecturers representing all universities in Sri Lanka presented their opinions to the committee.
Senior Professor Amaratunga said that it is necessary to increase the production economy in this country and it is important to prepare policies for that. He mentioned that for example, priority has been given to the manufacturing economy in Vietnam and that there is a service economy in this country.
