Couple escapes from Wadduwa train accident

A young couple had a miraculous save at a Wadduwa rail crossing yesterday. Police stated that a van carrying a young couple collided with a train at the railway crossing in Wadduwa Ratnayake Road and the couple survived. 

Police say that the young couple with another group of people had come to a nearby holiday resort.

A Police officer said that as soon as the van collided with the train, the van got stuck in front of the train and as a result, the Kalutara Municipal Council’s fire department had to work hard for more than two hours to get the young woman out and she was admitted to the hospital. Police said that the seats and other accessories of the van had to be removed in order to get out the girl’s leg which was stuck.

The van was heavily damaged and the front side of the train has also been damaged in the accident. A young couple aged 20 and 23 residing in Grandpass and Angoda areas had met with the accident.Wadduwa police are investigating.
