Couple hijack three-wheeler at gunpoint

A couple hijacked a three-wheeler from its driver at gunpoint in Peliyagoda, after boarding the vehicle on the pretext of going on a hire, the Police said.

The 72-year-old owner-driver of the three-wheeler told Police that a man and a woman got into his vehicle at Angoda to go to Peliyagoda.

Nearing the New Kelani Bridge Roundabout in Peliyagoda, the man had pointed a gun at him, asked him to get off, and drove off with the woman. The hijacking had taken place around 11.30 am, when there was heavy traffic in the area. The three-wheeler owner is a resident of Walpola, Angoda,

A senior Police officer investigating the crime said police were scrutinising CCTV footage.
