Acting Magistrate of Kahatagasdigiliya, Dimuthu Naleen Bandara, ordered a man and a woman who is said to be an actress arrested in connection with an alleged financial fraud amounting to around five billion rupees be remanded until February 5.
The suspect, the owner of a financial institution in Galenbindunuwewa had allegedly defrauded the above amount after taking money as deposits from the people promising a high interest.
He had been hiding for sometime and had been arrested by the CID in Pilimatalawa, Kandy on Saturday.
The woman said to be an actress too had been with the suspect at the time of arrest.
Investigations have revealed that the 39-year-old suspect had bought land and houses in Galenbindunuwewa, Anuradhapura, Kadawatha and Matale areas with the depositor’s money.
Police have also received a number of complaints related to the financial frauds committed by the suspect.
Police said that he had defrauded over 1,000 persons.
