Couple injured after break up feud inside lodge

Medawachchiya Police said that a couple who came to a lodge in the town to meet for a last time before ending their love affair had  ended in hospital after the girl stabbed her lover with a knife and then consumed poison in an attempt at suicide.

Police said the 25-year-old woman involved in the incident is a resident of Polonnaruwa and the 25-year-old man residing in Padaviya area was a soldier of the Sri Lanka Army Signal Corps.

The woman who was did not want break the affairs had first tried to harm herself with a knife and the soldier too had been stabbed when he tried to prevent the attempt. The soldier has received injuries to his hand.

Later the young girl had attempted suicide by taking some poisonous tablets. Both have been admitted to hospital. The police are investigating.
