Court of Appeal to announce decision on Sallay’s writ petition on Nov. 27

The Court of Appeal will announce on Nov. 27 whether it will grant leave to proceed with a writ petition filed by former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay challenging his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

The Court of Appeal bench comprising President of the Court of Appeal Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando announced the date after concluding oral submissions in the petition on Friday (18).

President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena, appearing for Sallay, concluded his reply submissions today following lengthy arguments.

The court directed the parties to file any written submissions before Oct. 20.

The bench said it would also issue its decision on the requests for interim relief on Nov. 27. (Newswire)
