Court orders to confirm whether saliva contained in the documents is her own

The female lawyer who was arrested in connection with an incident where two copies of essential documents taken out of the Court safe were torn and chewed by her was remanded until August 2 by the Kekirawa Court.

The lawyer was arrested on Thursday (27) evening by the Police after the Court staff, videotaped the entire incident and complained about it to the Kekirawa Police Station.

The Court also ordered her to be produced before the forensic officer of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital today (31) to obtain blood samples from the suspected lawyer to confirm whether the saliva contained in the documents is her own.

The lawyer allegedly tried to chew and swallow the original documents related to a case being heard against her in the Kekirawa District Court.

Police told the Court that a land case between the suspect lawyer and several other parties was pending before the Kekirawa District Court. Police the suspect forcibly tried to take two documents related to the case certified by the Government Analyst and when the Court officials tried to prevent it, the suspect put the relevant documents in her mouth and chewed them. However, the Court officials had been able to find some parts of the documents, Police said.

Police informed Court that further investigations are continuing.
