Covid like influenza virus spreading – Prof.Jeewandara

Genetic analysis of sample testing of the Omicron subspecies JN-1 will be started by two weeks, Sri Jayawardhanapura University’s Prof.Chandima Jeewandara said yesterday (21).

He said that there is a virus similar to influenza is spreading and there might be Covid infected persons among them.

He urged everyone to wear face masks throughout the forthcoming festival season.

World Health Organization (WHO) warned that there is a risk that the JN-1 subspecies of Covid, is spreading fast throughout the globe. And the spread of the virus can be accelerated due to the winter and that people infected with the virus have been identified from China, India, America and Britain.

The WHO also mentioned that being vaccinated can protect the population from the infection.
