CP Transport Authority board member removed in fraud case

Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage has taken steps to remove a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Province Road Passenger Transport Authority S.M.M.B. Samarakoon from his post with immediate effect based on an incident where he allegedly supported several people who committed fraud and lost the money owed to the Authority.

Governor Gamage has appointed a committee headed by Central Province Cooperative Commissioner Amila Nawarathne to conduct an investigation in connection with the revelation of a case of deploying a luxury bus on the Hatton–Nuwara Eliya road using a fake driving licence prepared with the official seal of the Authority.

The Committee had recommended that the acting Deputy General Manager (Operation)) of the Central Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority, K.D.B. Basnayake and the officers in charge of the Nuwara Eliya office as well as the officers in charge of the Nuwara Eliya bus station should be transferred and disciplinary and legal measures should be taken. .

When the Board of Directors deliberated on the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee, no member of the Board of Directors raised objections verbally, but Samarakoon had put a note that he did not agree with the recommendations while signing the Board of Directors signature sheet. This has been informed to the Governor in writing by other members.

Therefore, the Governor has decided to remove Samarakoon from the Board of Directors with immediate effect, taking into account the fact given by the other members of the Board that supporting the parties who commit such fraud.
