CR and FC go out favourites against Army today

CR and FC will be at full strength as they go out favourites aginat Army in their first game with new sets of sponsors at the Nippon Paint Sri Lanka Rugby Major League XV-a-side Rugby Tournament game at Panagoda today. The kick-off off is at 3.45 p.m.

The defending Clifford Cup champions and League Tournamnet runner up, CR and FC will be led by Suhiru Anthony this year. Suhiru Anthony, a former Peterite and Kandy SC player later donned the Longden Place club jersey will have the services of over 20 senior players who have been playing as a unit for the last three years.

They have also included several prominent school boy players including Rinesh Silva, Costa from Isipathana, Randul Senanayake, Royal, Colombo, Navin Marasinghe St.Josephs, Colombo, Aadil and Mohamed from Zahira,Colombo,Vindya de Mel and, Tharindu Kushan both from St.Peters, Bambalapitiya, Eran Corea Wesley while some experienced players like Adeesha Weeratunga, Navy, Venura Kodagoda( CH), Sugath Nanayakkara (Army), Randy Silva and Eranga Ariyapala from Havelocks have joined with the red jersey men to strengthen their squad this season.

CR has appointed two of their senior and experienced players Murshid Dooray former Wesley Skipper and former Isipathana captain Manilka Ruberu as joint vice captains. Meanwhile, CR which celebrated its centenary, will lock horns with First Capital Holdings as their Platinum sponsor.

We are very grateful and thankful to them. Without a sponsor a game like Rugby cannot be played which needs a huge budget. With this joint venture we expect to grab all the titles on offer.”
