Following the ICC Director Board meeting held in Ahmedabad last Tuesday, SLC will resume its normal work and focus on the development of Sri Lanka Cricket.
According to an official from SLC, ICC has made it clear that Cricket board can continue their work, including participating in cricket matches both home and away, conducting domestic tournaments as usual during this temporary suspension.
“We missed out on conducting the ICC Under-19 World Cup, which was planned for next January and February, as well as the ICC annual conference, a event planned to place in Sri Lanka for the first time. We had US$ 6 million before we started our duties, and presently, we maintain a fixed deposit of US$ 28-30 million,” said SLC official.
He further said, “ICC’s clear rejection of the Interim Committee activities emphasizes that the suspension was imposed due to some unwarranted activities here in Sri Lanka.”
“We are planning some changes and we retain the rights to host and participate in upcoming tournaments. SLC has a packed schedule with the Under-19 Asia Cup set on the first week of December in Dubai, followed by the Under-19 World Cup and the series against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan for the national team. Domestic tournaments will restart as first-class competitions from this week. This is good news for local cricketers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Under-19 team is currently training at the Pallekele International Stadium. They will depart for Dubai on December 4 for the World Cup. Meanwhile CEO of SLC Ashley de Silva has confirmed that the prize money from the recently concluded ICC World Cup will be disbursed as usual soon.
“SLC will never exclude any official and they will receive their salaries as usual. Changes may happen in the coaching staff and selection committee, but this is all for the benefit of cricket development,” said SLC official.
