Cricket Pathway programme commences from Polonnaruwa
Sri Lanka Cricket will initiate its latest programme ‘Gaman Maga’, or ‘Pathway’ a national development project recently in Polonnaruwa where talented cricketers could reach the national level. The programme is mainly targeted at scouting talented young cricketers from less privileged schools in the rural areas and the first stage will cover the Polonnaruwa district.
According to the SLC Assistant Treasure Sujeewa Godaliyadda, the initial programme took place at the Royal College ground in Polonnaruwa, where girls and boys of age categories of Under-13, 15, 19, and 23 were screened for their abilities.
The programme will work out daily at Sevanapitiya NS ground in Welikanda, Aralaganvila NS ground in Dimbulagala, Vijitha Central ground in Lankapura, Dudley Senanayake MV ground in Hingurakgoda, Madirigiriya NS ground and Bakamuna Mahaweli ground until September 24.
This is like a talent search programme from the outstations where most of the talented players can find it. They haven’t proper guidance as well as infrastructure facilities.
SLC is expected to give their big support for this programme added Treasure Sujeewa Godaliyadda who is also the Secretary of the North Central Province Cricket Association.
This is the first step of the Cricket Pathway program for the cricket National development project.
The Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe and National Sports Council chairman Arjuna Ranatunga were present at this launching ceremony.
