Kandy Chief Magistrate Srinath Wijesekara yesterday released the Crime OIC and a Constable of the Panadura Police Station who were arrested for illegally keeping six pounds of gold recovered from an arrested suspect in their possession, on a cash bail and two surety bails each.
The two police officers Sub Inspector Gayan Pushpakumara and Constable Nalinda Thushara were arrested by the Police Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit of Kandy.
The Crime OIC was released on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 and two surety bails of Rs.500,000 each while the Constable was released on a cash bail of Rs.15,000 and two surety bails of Rs.500, 000 each.
It was reported that the two suspects had kept six pounds of gold out of sixty pounds stolen from a residence in Kandy by another person, in their possession without recording the exact amount of gold recovered in the book.
The robber, Roshan Saliya alias Rosa, who had stolen this gold also had been arrested by the police and he was remanded till March 9 by the Chief Magistrate.
He had committed this burglary at Dangolla area on January 28 while returning from Kandy Magistrate’s Court after appearing for the hearing of another case, police said.
