It has been confirmed that the crop damage caused by wild animals in Sri Lanka is 54 billion rupees per year. Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said according to calculations made by the Agriculture Ministry, among the animals that cause the most damage to crops are wild elephants, wildebeests, rhinos, peacocks, hyenas, jackals and wild boar.
Out of these, six animals other than wild elephants have been included in the list of animals that cause crop damage.The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute has prepared a special report related to crop damage caused by wild animals and according to that report these facts have been revealed.
