Current shortage of medicines will be overcome by May
Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health Dr.Saman Ratnayake said that the current shortage of medicines in some hospitals will be completely overcome by May.
He also stated that the stocks of medicines ordered under the credit schemes including the Indian Credit Line are currently being received.He stated that there was a shortage of 169 types of medicines last month, but it has reduced to 119 and that all 14 life-saving medicines are available at hospitals.
He said that around 406 types of medicines are produced locally in the country and that by the year 2025, steps have been taken to produce 70 percent of the medicines needed in this country. He also stated that more than 300 types of medicines are to be imported under the Indian Credit Line.
