The Customs seized 16 kilos of heroin was found in the ventilation hood of a refrigerated container of potatoes which was brought to Sri Lanka June 15, and its value is estimated to be around Rs.647 million. There were 12 parcels of heroin in the ventilation hood of the ship
“Wide Juliet” which docked at the Colombo port from Karachi, Pakistan. This stack of heroin was seized after a long investigation conducted by the Customs Port Control according to a tip off received by the Port Control Unit of Sri Lanka.
Several persons including a wharf clerk and the importer engaged in the necessary preliminary work for the release of this import were arrested and investigations are being carried out. Customs Officers are conducting the further investigations and after the preliminary Customs inspection, the seized drugs and suspects are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
