Sri Lanka Customs seized narcotic drugs worth Rs.2.5 billion in 2023 in 81 operations, the largest number of detections recorded in the last several years, Customs Director Seevali Arukgoda said.
During the period Customs had found cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, hashish and kush among other narcotic drugs.
The most recent detection of drugs by the Customs he explained was 1,055 ecstasy pills, 318 grams of Kush worth around Rs.13 million and 15 cannabis seeds which were found in 11 parcels sent by air mail from Germany and England to addresses in Nugegoda, Panadura, Anuradhapura and Kandy areas.
Investigations showed that these were fake addresses, he said. These narcotics are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
