The Sri Lankan cricket loving public will see the return of exceptional former Maliyadeva College captain, Sri Lanka under 19 national player, SLC under 23 champion Lankan CC skipper cum left arm leg spinning all rounder Damitha Silva after almost six years in a top class SLC conducted tournament.
He will feature in team ‘Jaffna’ 15-member squad for the National Super League (NSL) limited-over’s tournament, which will be Sri Lanka’s ‘Elite Domestic Cricket Competition; in operation which will act as the primary competition for National Selections to harness the budding youngsters to the national squad.
Silva last appeared for Sri Lanka Under 19 national cricket team under Charith Asalanka six years ago, where he was the highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka against England, South Africa and Australia.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily News Damitha Silva said “I believe being a cricketer is never easy. I was waiting for this chance for nearly six years and sacrificed a lot. There are lots of people that I have to thank because they were with me in my hard times; they are my parents, family and coaches krishan Godahewa, Damith Gunathilake, Indika Dharmawardene, Chandima, Salinja, Dr.Matheesha, Janaka,Rohan Deerasuriya, Thusitha Herath and Buddika Allepola. Hence I’m always grateful to all of them”.
This tournament commenced yesterday, with matches played between Galle vs. Colombo at SSC grounds and Jaffna vs. Dambulla at P.Sara Oval in Colombo.
