Sri Lanka Under 19 world cup all rounder cum Lankan CC under 23, T20 championship winning captain Damitha Silva spun a web around the Edgworth CC batsmen capturing a match bag of 4 for 42 to go along with his spectacular knock of 66, as he single-handedly steered Denton St Lawrence CC to a thrilling two run win in the Greater Manchester Cricket League one day match concluded at The Barlow grounds-1, Lancashire.
Damitha not only contributed with the ball, but made a brilliant match winning knock with the bat as well making a top score of 66 runs off 110 balls with (6 fours) and (1 six) to lift Denton St Lawrence CC to a match winning total of 198/8 in 50 overs.
The day was set for an absorbing finish when Denton St Lawrence CC was dismissed for 198 leaving Edgworth CC a target of 198 to chase in 50 over’s to win the match.
Thereafter Edgworth CC lost wickets at regular intervals as Damitha’s probing deliveries tested their skills against quality left-arm spin.
They had no answer to Damitha Silva’s tantalising spell as they were finally dismissed for 196 in 49.5 over’s when he claimed the final wicket in the penultimate ball of the match caught at short midwicket thus losing the match by two runs and his remarkable bowling figures were 15-1-42-4.
Incidentally Damitha Silva was adjudged man of the match for his magnificent performance with both bat and ball.
