An Injunction Order issued by the Colombo District Court preventing the implementation of the letter issued by SLFP Leader

Former President Maithripala Sirisena to its General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, which mentioned that disciplinary inquiry would be conducted against him and asking for excuses from him, was yesterday removed by the Colombo District Court.

The injunction order was issued by Colombo Chief District Judge Sadun Withana earlier, after considering a case filed by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara against SLFP Leader, former President Maithripala Sirisena and its Deputy Secretary Sarath Ekanayake.

President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha appearing for former President Maithripala Sirisena informed Court that Dayasiri Jayasekara had concealed facts from Court while obtaining the injunction and that the relevant letter was a letter calling for a disciplinary inquiry issued under the approval of the Party’s Central Committee. After considering the submissions, the Colombo District Court ordered to remove the injunction.

In the letter, MP Jayasekara was informed that if no excuses are given within fourteen days for the five charges levelled in the relevant letter, he will be found guilty of those charges and further action will be taken.

The letter was issued accusing him for depositing money without the approval of the Party’s Central Committee during the submission of nominations for the 2023 Local Government elections, giving the address of the Party office to the United People’s Freedom Alliance without approval, scolding the organizers of the Freedom Party and not fulfilling the responsibilities while acting as the Party Secretary and criticising the leadership.
