Decision to sell 49% stake of Sri Lankan Catering
Enable GingerNimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Shipping and Aviation, says that the government is going to sell 49% of the shares of the Sri Lankan catering Company of Sri Lankan Airlines.
The Minister said this at a press conference held at the ministry today (29) regarding the restructuring of Sri Lankan Airlines.
The minister said that the government owns the majority shares of 51% of the national airline.
Over the years, airlines have been suffering huge losses. Sri Lankan Airlines suffered further losses last year as a result of the Corona pandemic.
Due to the Corona pandemic, the airline industry globally has experienced 60% to 80% reduction in capacity last year and measures have been put in place to control it.
In July last year, Sri Lankan Airlines said that revenue in the 2020/21 financial year was down 70% compared to the previous year.
