Defendant pays Rs. 20,000 fine
The defendant in a case where a toffee wrapper was found in a bottle of beverage was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000 by the Attanagalle Magistrate on Friday (25).
Following the detection of a toffee paper inside a bottle of a soft drink, public health inspectors took steps to take legal action against Padmini Mangalika who sold it and also the distributing company.
On the day the charges were read out to the accused who sold the bottle, she declared her guilt and paid Rs.5,000 as ordered by court.
Because the defending distributing company pleaded not guilty to the charge the case continued for many years and was finally fixed for judgment on August 25.
The case was re-called on August 25, and it was established that the defending company was guilty and was ordered to pay as per the judgment.
