0 33

The current shortage of Paracetamol in the local market is fuelled by the huge demand resulting in the increase of dengue, COVID-19 and a viral fever that is spreading very fast, Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.

“Due to these three factors the demand for Paracetamol increased by 275% in Sri Lanka and this is the reason there is a shortage of this.”

He told the media that this is a global phenomenon and would soon be an issue of the past and also the raw materials used to manufacture paracetamol has increased by 150% globally. “The current Ukraine crisis will further increase this.”

“As a remedy for this the State Pharmaceutical Corporation has increased production and now produces 3.2 million tables per month.” (SS)
