Dengue cases rise due to rains

The National Dengue Control Unit said that the number of dengue cases reported has increased by 47.2 percent in the last week with the onset of current rainy weather. The number of people infected with dengue this year is 24,481 and the number of deaths is nine.

Around 36 percent of the total dengue-infected people are reported from the Western Province, 18.1 percent from the Northern Province, 8.9 percent from the Central Province, 7.3 percent from the North Western Province, 7.6 percent from the Southern Province and 9.4 percent from the Sabaragamuwa Province.  Doctors said that if a person has fever for more than 48 hours, it can suspected to be dengue and should be treated by a qualified doctor. The surrounding environment should be kept clean so that mosquitoes cannot breed.
