Denmark and Tunisia got their FIFA World Cup campaign underway with a thrilling 0-0 draw in a fascinating Group ‘D’ fixture played at the Education City Stadium in Doha, Qatar yesterday.
Even then, Tunisia, 30th in the World Rankings, looked the more threatening for large parts of the first half and could have been ahead before the break and it was a similar story for Denmark after the turnaround.
The two nations each had a goal chalked off by the linesman’s flag and more notably, each had a penalty shout turned down; Denmark’s was checked by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) late on, while Tunisia’s did not even get to that point.
In fact, Denmark will feel they should’ve had a penalty in injury time when the ball hit the arm of Yassine Meriah. Referee Cesar Arturo Ramos went to check the incident on a pitch-side monitor.
Both teams will take a point apiece, which is probably fair in the grand scheme of things. (C.D)
