Deputy Minister explains why NPP continues to hold rallies

Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena says that although the National People’s Power (NPP) has obtained governing power, it has yet to secure state power.

Addressing an NPP rally, he noted that some may wonder why the party continues to hold public rallies despite having a 159-seat majority in Parliament, appointing a President, and gaining local council support.

“Why are we doing so? What kind of power have we received? We have only received governing power. There is another part called state power. This power is not something you vote for. State power is where you progress through the state system. For example, government projects are conducted through state power. State power is not something you can obtain in a day. It takes time to secure state power. This is the administrative era,” he said.

Deputy Minister Gunasena went on to explain how state power can be obtained, recalling that in 1988/89 both government and state power were seized through violence.

“However, this is the first time in world history where both government and state power are being secured through a democratic manner. There is no precedent to learn from. No political party in the world has obtained power in this way and developed the country, except the NPP,” he said.

He added that it was essential to make the world aware that the NPP has obtained power democratically and is working towards developing Sri Lanka, which is why the party continues to hold rallies. (Newswire)
