The inaugural meeting of the Sri Lanka – Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Association (PFA) for the Ninth Parliament was held in Parliament recently and was chaired by the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana. There, Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse was proposed by MP Mohamed Muzammil for the post of Secretary and it was confirmed by MP Madhura Withanage.
State Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Geetha Kumarasinghe was appointed as the President of the Sri Lanka – Egypt PFA.
MP Madhura Withanage, MP Hector Appuhami and MP Aravinda Kumar was appointed as Vice Presidents of the Friendship Association while MP Karunadasa Kodithuwakku appointed as Assistant Secretary. MP Mohomad Muzammil was appointed as the Treasurer to the Sri Lanka – Egypt PFA.
Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse, stated that relations between Sri Lanka and Egypt have existed since ancient times and he is happy to be appointed to this position after 66 years of having diplomatic relations existing between two countries.
