Cricketer, Athlete, Volleyball and Elle player under 19 School Cricket Captain – 2021, Member of the under 19 Development Squad and of the Colombo Colts Cricket Club Ladies Team Dewni Nihara Sakunali has brought honour to Sri Gnanawimala Junior School, Subarathie Maha Mathya Vidyalaya Godigamuwa and Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya with her deeds in the field of sports.

Dewni Nihara outstanding sportswomanDewni who is an all round Cricketer is an opening right hand batswoman and a right arm medium pace bowler with a safe arm was born on 27 th April 2001 and admitted to Sri Gnanawimala Junior School Godigama in 2007 and her first class teacher was Mrs.Kumari and she did athletics when she was in grade five at the school sports meets and her events were 50 and 100 metres and she won places and after passing the grade five scholarship Examination with good results she was admitted to Subarathie Maha Vidyalaya and over there she did athletics, Volleyball, Cricket and Elle and participated at the Divisional and Zonal Competitions. Though she participated in other games her forte is cricket and her brother Shakila Piyumantha who taught her the basics of cricket and her Mistress in Charge was Mrs.Manel and the Coach was Ajith Priyankara. After passing the G.C.E.Ordinary Level Exam with flying colours her Parents

Priyantha Jayasinghe and Asha Dilrukshi decided to admit Dewni to get sound higher Education and to enhance her cricket career admitted her to Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya and she immediately came under Tharindu Liyanage and Pradeep Nishantha She was in the under 19 Cricket Team in 2018 and played in the Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and scored a fifty and in her second year she claimed 5 for 15 versus Princess of Wales’ College Moratuwa including a hat rick and scored 38 runs and this performances earned her the Woman of the Match Award and in 2021 against St.Anthony’s College Panadura she scored an unbeaten 100 runs and put on a record opening partnership of 249 runs with Thushadi Kaushallya who made an unbeaten 109 runs and Captured three scalps and with these performances under her belt she was selected for the Development Squad under Mahesh Weerasinghe.

Then in 2021 she joined Colombo Colts Cricket Club and she represented them in the Six a Side women’s tournament under former Cambrian Kanishka Perera and also she is attending practices at Freedom Cricket Academy Meegoda and her Principal Shara Panditharatne was very supportive for her Cricket.
