Dhammissara Spikers reign supreme at DSI Super Sports Tourney

Dhammissara National School Nattandiya proved their mettle by securing an impressive total of five championship titles across three age categories. This remarkable feat unfolded on the first day of the 21st DSI Super Sports Schools Volleyball Championships conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Volleyball Association under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Saturday. Simultaneously, Hungama Vijayaba National School clinched the coveted Under-15 Girls Championship title in this thrilling tournament.

Dhammissara National School cemented their status as a volleyball powerhouse by clinching championships in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions for Under-13 and Under-11 age groups. Their dominance extended to the Under-15 Boys Championship, where they outperformed St. Xaviers Vidyalaya, Marawila.

In a nail-biting final, Dhammissara National School’s Under-15 Boys’ team secured victory with a resounding 3-0 win over St. Xaviers Vidyalaya, with scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-15. Walagamba Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle, claimed the third-place spot, defeating Wewala Kanishta Vidyalaya.

Individual excellence was also celebrated as Thimeth Arosha from Dhammissara National School was recognized as the Best Setter, Vidula Daham as the Best Attacker, and Bihandu Nimsath as the Best Player.

Meanwhile, in the fiercely contested Girls Under-15 final, Vijayaba National School of Hungama emerged victorious by defeating Tissapura Vidyalaya, Ampara, with an impressive straight-set victory of 3-0, marked by set scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-15. Maliyadeva Model School, Kurunegala, secured the third-place position by triumphing over Kehelulla Maha Vidyalaya, Padiyathalawa.

The individual awards mirrored the success of Vijayaba National School, with Nuwangi Apsara being named the Best Setter, and the dynamic duo of Wathshika Dilshani (Best Attacker) and Sadisha Dilrukshi (Best Player) earning well-deserved recognition.

In the Boys Under-13 finals, Dhammissara National School displayed their dominance by defeating their local rivals, President’s National School, Nattandiya, with a convincing 2-0 victory. Central College Pulmudai secured the third-place by prevailing over Dharmapala National School Eheliyagoda.

The star spikers from Dhammissara National School, including Asvida Perera (Best Setter), Uimira Dilnath (Best Attacker), and Thenuja Tharul (Best Players), were celebrated for their outstanding contributions.

The Girls Under-13 Championship was also secured by Dhammissara National School, as their talented female spikers claimed victory over Vidyakara Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya of Mabima with a 2-0 triumph. Maliyadeva Model School secured the third-place while Dharmapala National School earned the fourth spot.

In recognition of their exceptional skills, Ashali Dhanya and Dineka Dinanjali from Dhammissara National School were awarded the titles of Best Setter and Best Player, respectively. Nelusha Kavindi of Vidyakara Maha Vidyalaya was honored as the Best Attacker.

The achievements continued in the Under-11 category as Dhammissara Under-11 girls secured the championship by defeating Primary School Elpitiya with a 2-0 victory. The third-place position was earned by President’s National School, Nattandiya, who triumphed over Rejie Ranatunga Primary School Minuwangoda. Notably, all young talents from Dammissara – Shehani Madushika, Vinuthi Thehara, and Yasadi Imaya – clinched titles for Best Setter, Best Attacker, and Best Player.

The Dammissara Under-11 boys mirrored their female counterparts’ success by clinching the championship with a 2-0 victory over St. Xaviers Vidyalaya, Marawila. The third-place spot was secured by Reji Ranatunga Primary Vidyalaya, who outperformed Primary Vidyalaya Elpitiya. Exceptional performances were recognized, with Mandil Nethaka and Kavitha Methmal from Dhammissara National School earning awards for Best Setter and Best Player, respectively. Lakithu Sithmika of St. Xaviers Vidyalaya was acknowledged as the Best Attacker
