Dharmasena continues winning streak

Sri Lanka’s Ranjan Dharmasena emerged open singles champion of the International Wheelchair Tennis tournament which was played at SLTA Tennis courts yesterday.

Dharmasena beat Sung Bong Han of Korea to win the title with a three-setter game 6/2,3/6,7/5.

Earlier, Dharmasena the Paralympian defeated Worakit Daengchuen of Thailand with two straight sets 6/2, 6/0 at the quarter-final while he outclassed another Sri Lankan Lasantha Ranaweera at the semi-final to enter the final.

Five countries: Korea, India, Belgium, Thailand, and host Sri Lanka were playing this tournament which gave good exposure for local wheelchair players. This is the second tournament won by Dharmasrna in this series. Earlier, he won the championship at the first international tournament at Negombo last week. The next tournament of the series will be worked off from March 8 to 11 at SSC tennis courts. (D.R)
