Dharmasoka’s Thisal and ICBT’s Sachintha shine in Youth Chess

In a battle of intellect and strategy, Thisal Manjula of Dharmasoka College and Sachintha Kodikara of ICBT Campus emerged as the champions in the Under-19 National Youth Chess Championship, held at Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Pannipitiya from December 27 to 30.

Thisal Manjula demonstrated exceptional skills, securing the championship title in the Under-19 Boys category by scoring an impressive 7 out of 8 points. The first runner-up position went to Samadhith Tennakoon of Dharmaraja College, while Nalanda College’s Ometh Benthararaachchi secured the second runner-up position with superior tiebreaks.

In the girls’ Under-19 category, where 12 participants competed over eight rounds, Sachintha Kodikara of ICBT Campus claimed the championship title with a score of 6.5 out of 8 points. Udani Samarakoon of Mahamaya Girls College secured the first runner-up position, and Thenugi Jayasinghe of Visakha Vidyalaya secured the second runner-up spot with superior tiebreaker.

The awards ceremony, was graced by Luxman Wijesuriya, President of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, and the Executive Committee Members.
