Dialog donates Rs. 87 million worth of medical equipment to cyclone-hit Chilaw Hospital

Dialog Axiata PLC has donated modern surgical and medical equipment worth Rs. 87 million to Chilaw District General Hospital to help restore and strengthen health care services affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
The equipment was handed over at the hospital on Oct. 7, as part of Dialog’s Rs. 420 million contribution to the government’s “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” national programme.
The donation includes surgical equipment for two operating theatres damaged by flooding, a modern endoscopy system, defibrillators, multiparameter monitors, syringe pumps and pulse oximeters.
The Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, who attended the handover ceremony, commended hospital staff for their efforts to restore medical services within a short period following the disaster.
The minister also outlined several planned development projects at the hospital.
Construction of previously suspended hospital buildings is expected to resume in 2027, while work on a new accident and emergency treatment unit, estimated to cost Rs. 5 billion, is expected to begin shortly and be completed within two and a half years.
The ministry has also allocated Rs. 11 billion for the hospital’s future development.
The event was attended by Puttalam District parliamentarians, senior health officials, hospital administrators and Dialog Axiata representatives, including Chairman David Lau and Group CEO Supun Weerasinghe. (Newswire)
