Dialog plans 5G commercial operations soon
Supporting the government’s digitalisation drive, Dialog plans to commence commercial operations of its 5G network in early 2025, said Navin Pieris, Group Chief Officer, Dialog speaking to Daily News Business on the sidelines of the launch of NCE Export Awards -24, event launch held in Colombo.
Over 100 exporters will be awarded at the event to be held on December 6 under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Pieris said the company is awaiting the commercial license from the TRC to commence 5G operations and with the new government in power they were optimistic of obtaining the approval from the regulatory body soon. Pieris said Dialog always looked at the national cause, as to what the nation needs and at this stage the growth in exports is one of the key pillars for the country to come out of the situation from where it is and Dialog has commenced interaction with the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE).
“We are exploring how Dialog can bring technology to help exporters grow. Exporters are experts in what they do. So we need to marry technology with business and manufacturing expertise. NCC is a chamber where its members are really taking up the challenge and bringing value added exports to the market. And we thought this was a good opportunity for us to partner and bring our capabilities and our learning to the exporters in this chamber.
He said export is also now changing and in Western countries you need things like ‘track and trace’ and for Sri Lanka to be competitive exporters need to be environmentally friendly, have the required certification and productivity improvement and for all those things technology can help. He said they plan to meet members of the NCE and come up with a plan for them, because energy needed to be used more efficiently and they had solutions to use energy much more efficiently. He said the concept in telecommunication internet of things (IOT) can go into different areas in the manufacturing process and send a matrix as to how the process is working. This will lead to energy efficiency, production efficiency and cost control of exporters, he added.
Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House)is the official Print Media sponsor of the 32nd NCE Export Awards -24 event.
