Dialog’s ‘Govi Mithuru’ partners TRI to extend advisory services
Govi Mithuru (‘UzhavarThozhan’ in Tamil), Sri Lanka’s premier mobile phone-based agricultural information service by Dialog Axiata PLC, recently announced its partnership with Tea Research Institute (TRI), the national Tea Research body in Sri Lanka, to extend the best-in-class advisory content on Tea cultivation.
The Tea industry is one of the oldest industries in Sri Lanka, with over 1 million families directly involved in this sector, out of which over 400,000 families represent the Tea smallholder segment. To provide this smallholder segment with sustainable and comprehensive Tea crop advisory services, Govi Mithuru joined hands with TRI. Established in 1925, the TRI has been the sole national organisation responsible for the generation and dissemination of modern technologies in relation to tea cultivation and processing.
The ground-breaking, trilingual Govi Mithuru platform provides actionable and comprehensive advice to enrich the lives of ordinary farmers by sending the correct information at the right time for each farmer’s needs, correctly tailored for their crop, location and stage of cultivation. Currently, advisory services for 32 crops are available on the Govi Mithuru platform, including Tea. The full range of Govi Mithuru services are accessible via the Govi Mithuru app, which can be downloaded directly via Google Play Store, and the voice service can be accessed by dialling 616. Customers will be charged Rs. 1 (plus tax) per crop per day for the voice service and Rs. 2 (plus tax) subscription per day for unlimited access to all crops for the mobile app, with no cost on data charges for Dialog Mobile users.
