Promising Sri Lankan paceman Dilshan Madushanka will represent Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 being the highest value Sri Lanka player at the IPL auction. Madushanka who took 21 wickets at recently concluded World Cup ( best bowler of Sri Lanka team ) was purchased for INR 4.6 crore (USD 570,000) and this is his first appearance of the IPL and highest valued Sri Lankan. In fact he was the highest valued player of last Lanka Premier league (LPL) cricket tournament in Sri Lanka.
In T- 20 cricket, Madushanka has played 28 matches and picked up 29 wickets. He has also represented Sri Lanka in T20Is and played 11 matches for his national side. Madushanka took 12 wickets in this format for Sri Lanka. Dilshan Madushanka got huge benefits by bowling medium paced cutters in the World Cup. He troubled several top-order batters with variations. Madushanka picked up a 5-wicket haul against India at Wankhede Stadium.
Meanwhile champion leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore ( RCB) last season (Base price INR 1.5 crore) this time was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1.5 crore (USD 181,000 approx).Last season Hasaranga was picked for RCB at less value. Wanindu Hasaranga was purchased for his base price by Sunrisers as there were no other bidders. However Sri Lankan Kusal Mendis was unsold yesterday.
This will be a significant salary loss for Wanindu Hasaranga as he played the last season for INR 10.75 crores for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Mitchell Starc, Australian fast bowler set a new record as the most expensive player in IPL history, joining Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 Crore (2.9 Million USD).
Earlier yesterday his bowling partner Pat Cummins was purchased for INR 20.5 Crore (2.46 Million USD) by Sunrisers Hyderabad which was the highest at that time.
