Once again I am thinking of giving up test captaincy after this Pakistan test series said Sri Lanka test skipper Dimuth Karunaratne after the first test at Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Earlier I had an idea to resign from leadership to give way for another player to be groomed but Selection committee advised me not to resign and provide my leadership for some time. However once again I like to resign from this top post and want to remain as a player for a few years said skipper Karunaratne.
Meanwhile skipper Dimuth Karunaratne pointed out two main reasons for losing the first test yesterday.
We did not get a good first innings total and in second innings also our top order was struggling and couldn’t make a good total and we missed few chances during fielding which is a big issue for us added skipper Dimuth.
Actually our bowlers also did not do their part as expected while Pakistan bowlers did a decent job. Dhananjaya de Silva played superbly in both innings while our top order couldn’t give support and that affected us in both innings said Dimuth.
We saw Pakistan batters came to attack yesterday while they chased their total. As a team we have to be more focused on next game and wanted to make plan to level the series. We have 2-3 days training and get ready for second test which will commence on July 24 at SSC.
Actually rain hit this first test and it also affected for Sri Lanka batting said skipper Karunaratne but no excuse for this defeat. We knew this is going to be a good battle among two teams. We saw new look Pakistan team and we have to work hard for next game added Dimuth.
