Dinara bags triple crown at Tennis Nationals

The promising Dinara de Silva produced an outstanding performance to win a triple crown at the 107th National Tennis Championships, concluded at the SLTA Clay Courts in Green Path yesterday.

The schoolgirl from St. Bridget’s Convent, combined with Saajida Razick to bag the Girls’ Under-18 Double title with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over the combination of Dewmini Warnasuriya and Nishka Vivekanandan in the final encounter.

Earlier, Dinara had the satisfaction of winning the Girls’ Under-16 Singles and the Girls’ Under-18 Singles as well. Meanwhile, Anjalika Kurera continued her winning ways as she partnered Thehan Wijemanne to clinch the Mixed Doubles title while overcoming the pair of Dilvan Herath and Hasali Gajaba in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.

Boys’ Under-18 Singles: Chathurya Nilaweera beat Kiran Vairavanathan 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

Girls’ Under-18 Doubles: Dinara de Silva and Saajida Razick beat Dewmini Warnasuriya and Nishka Vivekanandan 6-0, 6-3.
