Sri Lanka’s reigning national champion Dinara de Silva made a winning start to her campaign in the ITF Junior Circuit Girls’ Under-14 Tennis Tournament, which began at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.
The 14-year-old schoolgirl from St. Bridget’s Convent, had little difficulties in overcoming her initial hurdle as she trounced her Indian counterpart Dya Vivekanandan in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in a first-round encounter.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Dinethya Dharmaratne also had a successful start to the tournament as she defeated Leyala Knese from Germany 6-4, 6-1 in another first-round fixture.

Anvi Punaganthi (India) beat Kaela de Zoysa (Sri Lanka) 6-0, 6-1. You Liu (China) beat Chiara de Zoysa (Sri Lanka) 6-0, 6-0. Nanyo Wada (Japan) beat Venuli Jayasinghe (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 6-1.
