Dinesh Schaffter murder: Blood samples of 14 other investigating officers to be handed to obtain DNA reports
Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday ordered the blood samples of 14 other investigating officers to be handed over to the Government Analyst’s Department to obtain DNA reports in order to exclude and identify the two foreign DNA samples found from the deceased director of the Janashakti company Dinesh Schaffter.
So far, the blood samples obtained from 21 Police officers and 10 medical staff including the nurses of the Colombo National Hospital, who gave emergency treatment to the deceased have been referred to the Government Analyst for DNA reports.
According to a request made by the Government Analyst from the Criminal Investigation Department to identify the foreign biological samples found in the water bottle used by the deceased and material used to tie his hands, the Criminal Investigation Department is in the process of collecting DNA samples of persons who came into contact with Schaffter on the day of his death and in the immediate aftermath.
Apart from this, the mobile phone used by Schaffter, the laptop computer, the mobile phone used by his business friend Brian Thomas, the computer and mobile phones used by his close friends have also been forwarded to the Government Analyst. The case is scheduled to be called again on May 25 to report the further progress of the investigations.
