Chamod de Silva of Gampaha and Dinesha Dilrukshi of Puttalam district emerged men’s and women’s Super Races winners at the National Cycling championship which concluded at Puttalam on Sunday .
Chamod the experienced cyclist once again came to the fore when he finished the race in 3 hours and 40 minutes and 28 seconds to win this National Super Race Championship after a close battle. Niron Pasindu, Ashen Tharuka and Kasun Nimesh all from Gampaha district won the 2, 3 and 4 places respectively.
National Cycling Federation organized this National Championship with the support of Sport Ministry and more than 150 cyclists from across the country took part in this championship.
Meanwhile experienced Air Force cyclist Dinesha Dilrukshi representing Gampaha district finished with 1 hour 20m minutes and 14 seconds to be placed first in the women’s Super Race while Panchali Sulochana and Ann Senali won second and third places with a distance of 45.2 km.
The veteran cycle race was won by Prasanna Medonza from Kalutara with a timing of 1 hours 44 minutes and this race comprised 67.8 km distance. Charindu Ishan of Gampaha district won the junior boys race in 1 hour 42 minutes and 32 seconds. Anjana Moushan and M.W.A.C Shavinda both from Gampaha District won second and third places in junior boys racer which consisted of 67.8 kms.
Amal Mayadunne Puttalam district MP was the chief guest and gave away the awards while Assistant Sports Director of Sports Ministry Gamini Costa and senior officials of Cycling federation were present on the occasion. (D.R)
