Distraught student adds weedicide into classmates’ water bottles
Narammala Police has commenced an investigation regarding an incident of adding weedicide to the water bottles of five female students studying in the same class by aGrade 10 student of a school in Narammala.
This incident had occurred on Monday (14) morning while the students were participating in the morning assembly. Police said that the student who put weedicide into the bottles of drinking water belonging to other students studying in the same class had finally put this weedicide in her own bottle of drinking water as well and she too had consumed her bottle of water when the other students were drinking their water.
Police also said that she had drunk a few sips of the weedicide-infused water, but the other students who had become suspicious of its colour and taste, had spat out the water they had in their mouths.Subsequent to notifying the teachers about it, and checking security camera footage, it had been revealed that this act had been done by the student who did not attend the assembly in the morning but had remained in the class.Police said further that when the school Principal had questioned this particular student, she had admitted to having put weedicide into the bottles of water. The Narammala Police said that as a result, school authorities had taken steps to admit this student as well as the five other students to the Narammala Regional Hospital for treatment.
When the 14-year-old student had been questioned regarding this incident, she had said that she had added weedicide to the bottles of water of five students who ignore her and are not on good terms with her. Police said that she is being brought up by her grandmother. During investigations it had become apparent that she was suffering from mental stress. It had become known during the investigation that she had added weedicide to her own bottle of water so that the others would not become suspicious.
A top police officer said that since only a small quantity of the weedicide had been mixed into the bottle of water, hospital sources had said that it had not affected the students’ lives or created a serious situation.
Sources of the school said that the competition for the title of student leader or prefect of this school had led to this incident. But the police said that they are not aware of such a thing.
The high ranked police officer further stated that an investigation has been conducted by the police regarding this incident and a decision regarding the future activities will be taken after a discussion involving the school authorities and the children’s parents.
