Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella says that since the overall brain drain in the country has had some impact on the health sector, as another solution to that, in addition to the retirement age of 63 years, doctors will be given another two years on contract basis as they wish. The Minister also said that a Cabinet Paper is to be submitted in this regard.
Although the retirement age of the entire public service is 60, the retirement age of doctors was extended to 63 earlier due to some effects that the health sector has to face along with the overall brain drain in the country. Accordingly, in addition to that, their service will be extended for another two years on contract basis.
