Domestic who ran home with robbed pet dog bailed

The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release the domestic woman who pleaded guilty to stealing and killing a house pet “Shitsu” dog worth Rs.125,000 on a surety bail of Rs.100,000. Gnanasekaram Subhashini alias Subha, a resident of Unagollawatta Moragolla section in Hali-ela was released on bail.

According to a complaint made by Mekala Irugalbandara, a resident of Nugegoda, Mirihana area, the Mirihana Police Chief Inspector had filed the case.

Three charges had been presented that the accused had committed an offence punishable under the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure by stealing the dog raised in the house intentionally and taking it to Hali-ela area and killing it.

The relevant case was called before Nugegoda Acting Magistrate Sunitha Nanayakkara and the suspect was presented for an identification parade. She was identified there by the driver of the bus in which the accused domestic was said to have travelled after stealing the dog.

The complainant and her sister had left the house on April 13 to get medical treatment.

When she returned home, the accused maid was not at home and the pet dog was also not at home. During the investigation of the CCTV footage of the house, it was recorded that the suspect maid was leaving the house with a big bag.

Information has been revealed that she arrived at the Pettah bus terminus and travelled on a bus going to Hali-ela. The driver of the bus testified that the accused woman boarded his bus and travelled with a dog.

Later, the accused woman pleaded guilty to the charges against her. The Acting Magistrate, who considered these facts, ordered the release of the accused on a surety bail of Rs.100,000.
