Domestic’s death in police custody: CID find complaint written after death

It has been discovered during preliminary investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that the Welikada Police had registered a complaint regarding a theft that took place at the  home of Sudharma Nettikumara, television drama producer and businesswoman, after the maid was illegally arrested, taken to the police station, beaten and then died mysteriously as a result. The maid had been arrested by Welikada police officers, without even a complaint being lodged, while working at a house in the Borella police division.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is focusing special attention on the fact that the Welikada police officers had arrested a woman without any complaint or note, kept her in the police station and brutally tortured her, based on whose powers.

The police said that they are investigating whether Sudharma Nettikumara had been inside the Welikada police station when the arrest and assault took place. It is based on a statement made by her husband.

A high-ranking police officer said that in relation to this investigation, the phone numbers of Sudharma Nettikumara and the police officers will be sent for a network investigation.
