Nidahas Janatha Sabhawa Leader and Member of Parliament Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday urged all parties not to hold the education of children to ransom in order to win their demands and to act in a sensitive manner.

He said that the citizens of this country have been suffering for five years due to three factors, the Easter Sunday attacks, the COVID-19 situation and the economic crisis, and children have been the most affected.Alahapperuma was addressing the media in Kandy.

“At present, 600,000 children are waiting for the GCE Ordinary Level exam. If any group tries to hold children’s education to ransom to win their demands as legislators, we cannot agree to it,” he said.

“We urge all stakeholder groups to stand on the side of the children and take all necessary measures not to disrupt their education,” he added.
