Drought damages over 51,000 acres of paddy lands countrywide

The prevailing drought has seen damages to 51,055.19 acres of paddy lands countrywide. Also,  the amount of other crop damage is 424.70 acres, and the total amount of crop damage is 51,479.89 acres, according to the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board. Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera received yesterday (23) the daily report prepared according to the crop damage assessments prepared by the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board.

According to report, the number of farmers whose paddy fields damaged is 45,678, and the number of farmers related to other crop losses is 394. The total number of farmers whose paddy and other crops have been damaged is 46,072.

The highest crop damage of 24,647.92 acres is reported from the Kurunegala district. The number of farmers whose crops have been damaged in the Kurunegala district is 29,472.The second highest amount of crop damage is reported from Udawala, which is 14,067 acres. The number of farmers is 5,867.

In Hambantota district, the damaged paddy acres is 1,898.25 and the number of affected farmers is 1,787. In Polonnaruwa district, 699.75 acres of paddy fields have been damaged and the number of affected farmers is 320. In Anuradhapura district, 292 farmers have been affected by crop damage in 336.20 acres of paddy fields.
