Drug dealer escapes from Police fire, car found

The Colombo Crime Division says that the drug dealer “Malwatte Amila” of Peliyagoda and another person fled in a car amid shooting by  Police officers during a drug raid near the Borella Oval stadium.

A Police officer said that the car in which the suspects fled was found hidden in a container yard at Peliyagoda Parakrama Mawatha.

According to the information revealed about the drug dealer by a person who was arrested with 150 grams of narcotic drugs at Mihidusenpura apartment complex in Dematagoda, a team of police officers had gone to location near the Borella Oval stadium.

When the Police officers were preparing to check a car, a person inside the car had tried to shoot at them with a firearm. At the same time another person had started the car and fled and a Police officer had fired several shots at the fleeing car with a pistol.

Police said that three of those shots hit the back of the car and the glass. Police officers had given chase to the car, which was speeding towards Peliyagoda on the Dematagoda Baseline Road. Within a few minutes after the incident they were able to find the car hidden in a container yard.

According to the registration number of the car, it was revealed that it was registered in the name of a resident of Veyangoda area and a special team has been deployed to investigate it, a senior Police officer said.
