Drug lord ‘Harak Kata’, wife arrested in Dubai
One of the main underworld gang leaders involved in drug trafficking in Sri Lanka, Nadun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata, was arrested yesterday (11) at the Dubai Airport as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) and the Interpol. According to sources, he was about to board for Malaysia with a woman who is said to be his wife from Dubai.
The PNB together with the Interpol has been conducting a covert operation for a month to arrest him based on the information of the passport used by him when leaving Sri Lankafor Dubai.
His passport had been prepared using the information of a dead person with the photo of Nadun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata.
Information has revealed that he had travelled to Malaysia, Singapore and many other countries from Dubai using this passport.
Police sources said that he had last travelled to the Maldives using this passport. Sources said that he had operated the drug smuggling and trafficking ring in many countries including Malaysia, Seychelles, Singapore and the Maldives while staying in Dubai. Officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau were busy last night in further ascertaining whether it was ‘Harak Kata’ who was arrested in Dubai. A Senior Police officer said action would be taken to bring him back to the country after his identity was ascertained by the PNB officials.
About 20 of the recent shootings and killings across the country were led by Harak Kata.Investigations have revealed that the killing of Kottikawatte PS member S. Rukshan and the shooting inside the Mount Magistrate’s Court have been directed by him.
