Dubai based drug dealer’s acolyte arrested in Athurugiriya
The Western Province South Crime Division yesterday said that a person who runs the drug network of Lalith Kannangara,who is behind a number of crimes including the murder of the Hanwella restaurant owner, has been arrested along with drugs worth about Rs. 8 million.
Police have taken 225 grams of heroin into custody together with the suspect.
Police said that, based on a tip-off received to the Division, the suspect was arrested with 100 grams of heroin at Mullegama, Athurugiriya.
During the lengthy interrogation, another 125 grams of drugs hidden in a biscuit tin inside his house, was also discovered.
According to the police, investigations have revealed that the suspect, claiming to be a three-wheeler driver, has been distributing drugs to several areas in Homagama, Athurugiriya and Kottawa for a long time on instructions given by the main suspect who is in Dubai. The 40-year-old suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.
