Dullas upbeat after consensus alliance with SJB
The consensus alliance between Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs’ faction marks a new beginning that transcends the traditional political parameters, nominee for succeeded Presidency MP Dullas Alahapperuma said yesterday (19).
Alahapperuma expressed his confidence that this consensus alliance will find better solutions to rebuild the lives of the people affected by the economic crisis prevailing in the country.Alahapperuma said that for decades, politician’s point of view was limited to ‘Diyawanna-island’, however, the new consensus alliance will communicate with the people who live beyond that ‘Diyawanna-island’.
Alahapperuma pointed out that the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has taken a historic decision on behalf of the people of the country when deciding to back him for the post of President. Thus, Alahapperuma said that he would dedicate himself to introduce a new culture to Sri Lankan politics.
“These parliament-islanders has failed to listen to public’s aspirations. They protested demanding a change in the system. They urged us to get-together on behalf of the people. This is the alliance that we are forming for the people. We have no power hungry agendas within this consensus alliance,” Alahapperuma pointed out.
“The Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa made this sacrifice for the people of this country. We request the countrymen to take an example from us and get-together. A single political party, just one person cannot rebuild this country. That is the reality. Let us become one Sri Lanka to get out of this troubled condition that we are in. I would like to invite other political parties to join us on behalf of our country,” Alahapperuma said.
Alahapperuma made these observations in a special press brief held in parliament premises yesterday (19).
Ready for changes, reformations – Sajith
The Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that he decided to support a new consensus political alliance in order to safeguard the democratic rights of the people while re-enforcing the 19th Amendment and taking the country forward to a better socio-economic-cultural position. Premadasa said that his sole objective is to create a platform where people’s aspirations are actualized.
“We are ready to do the necessary changes and reformations to rejuvenate the economy of this country. This is the first step we are taking towards establishing better living conditions for our people. We did this dedication for our citizens. Political victories should reflect people’s aspirations. We will create a platform where not just politicians, but also other civil factions can directly contribute to country’s governance. There will not be isolated decision making anymore,” Premadasa further stated.
